Il s'agit du groupe Virgin, piloté par le brillant marketeur Richard Branson. L'article est assez critique et explique qu'Apple a intérêt de bien s'accrocher car la bataille va être rude entre les 2 sociétés.
Rappellons que Virgin a un historique assez brillant dans la distribution musicale et peut "arroser" un nombre très important de consomateurs à travers le monde grâce à ses différentes activités (avions, disques, téléphonie, voitures etc...).
Virgin Digital, la plateforme de musique en ligne de Virgin, sera au format WMA et Virgin a annoncé qu'il sortirait un baladeur numérique pour l'année prochaine.
Selon Zalon, président de Virgin Digital, le consommateur veut pouvoir écouter ses chansons n'importe ou et n'importe quand et avec n'importe quel produit... ce qu'Apple ne peut pas faire pour le moment avec son format AAC...
Zalon, president of Virgin Digital, envisions a service where customers can hear their music on any number of players and can always take their music with them, either through mobile Internet access or through digital copies of the tunes. "The promise of music anytime, anywhere is about being able to retrieve your music wherever you are, whenever you want to, on any device. That's different from what Apple is offering, which is a closed system that only runs on an iPod," says Zalon.
